CThe Official State Preliminary Pageant to Mrs. America
We are given opportunities everyday-- opportunities that allow us to grow as individuals and change lives of people around us. Hello, I am Dena Curran, Mrs. New Mexico 2009 and I embraced the opportunity to compete in the Mrs. New Mexico pageant this year, and it paid off! I am so blessed to have the opportunity to represent my home state of New Mexico in the National Mrs. America Pageant in September! The best advice I have ever received is “Never let an opportunity pass you by.”

I am a native to New Mexico and have never lived outside
of the state! I graduated from New Mexico State University
in 1999 with honors and currently work as an
Inclusion/Itinerant Teacher at New Mexico School for the
Blind and Visually Impaired. I also teach an adult Braille
class  for certified staff on the school campus. Working
with children that are either blind or visually impaired has
truly given me a new perspective on life. Through their
“eyes”, I have truly come to appreciate the little things in
life that we so often take for granted.

My husband, Bobby and I have known each other since third grade in elementary school.  We actually got in trouble in fourth grade for holding hands on the playground!  Our senior year in high school, 1994, we began dating and have been together ever since. We were married on March 18, 2000. Bobby truly is the backbone of my success for he supports whatever endeavor I choose to embark on, regardless of how crazy it seems at the time!
My husband has been my ultimate pageant supporter for over 15 years now, and smiles with pride when addressed with his new title of “Mr. New Mexico 2009”! He definitely deserves the title! We have one son, Tayton, and hope to have more children in the near future.

million Americans currently  diagnosed with a peanut allergy, and an approximate 150 people who die each year due to an adverse reaction to peanuts. As a member of FAAN (Food Allergy and  Anaphylaxis Network) I hope to organize state-wide fundraisers to help in the on-going research for a peanut allergy cure.

If you are someone or know someone who is interested in competing in the Mrs. New Mexico pageant, don’t hesitate! This experience offers you an opportunity to grow, to learn more about yourself, to make an impact on the lives of others and to share an unforgettable experience with your husband!

My son, at the early age of one, was diagnosed with multiple food allergies to milk, eggs and peanuts.  As Mrs. New Mexico I hope to bring more awareness to the state regarding the severity of  peanut allergies.  There are nearly 3
